The Third Annual Lesbian Book Festival in Palm Springs, promises to be the best yet, with top lesbian authors reading their work around the pool. What could be better?

Well, perhaps those same excellent authors doing readings, workshops, and talking to fans over four days.

An Interview With the Organizers

Joanna Funaro and Denise Roberson, owners of lesbian resort Casitas Laquita, answered some questions regarding the festival. She and her partner have owned the well known and popular lesbian establishment since 1998, and always have a friendly, open atmosphere. Fresh coffee cake in the rooms for breakfast makes the trip complete.

One of their regular guests was an author, and while discussing her career, they came up with the idea of an author gathering. They contacted iconic author Radclyffe (Bold Strokes Books publishing), and she agreed. Thus started an incredibly popular yearly event.

They estimate that about one hundred women came to the festival last year, and it's possible there will be slightly more this year. For a city in the middle of the desert, two hours outside of Los Angeles, that's a very good turnout.

Throughout the festival there are readings, signings, meals, poolside events and there is a private dinner for authors and sponsors. Funaro and Roberson say this is their favorite part of the festival.

Who Will be at the Palm Springs Lesbian Book Festival?

More than twenty authors are expected to attend. Just a few of them are:

  • Jane Fletcher, author of the Celeano Series and the Tristaine Series.
  • Andrews and Austin are a writing duo that can keep the audience on the edge of their seats as well as howling with laughter.
  • VK Powell, Erin Dutton, Lisa Girolami and Jennifer Fulton.
  • Also attending and sponsoring are: Bold Strokes Books, The Queen of Hearts Resort, The Palm Springs Bureau of Tourism, The Palm Springs Public Library, The Los Angeles Women’s Theater Project, L-Book Listening eBooks, QTrading Palm Springs, and PINK/ Hunters Bar, Girls Night Out.
