Deepak Chopra's Seven Laws Still PopularThe Seven Spiritual Laws of Success Read Many Times by ManyThis small volume is large on content, described as "A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams." Is Deepak Chopra a charlatan or a wise man with good advice?
There are just some books that, no matter how "pop culture" they first appear, just stay in the mainstream long after others have drifted away with the current. Such is the case with Deepak Chopra’s The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success. How to Change One’s LifeThis is not the typical "rah-rah change your attitude and you change your life book," although this book may well change one’s life if its ideas are adopted and practiced faithfully. There is little doubt that one would experience a personal epiphany if one followed Chopra’s guidelines. What makes this book stand out from so many others is the sincerity, ease and practicality of Chopra’s suggestions. The author presents seven “Laws” and how to practice these “Laws” and incorporate them into one’s life. The Laws presented in the book simply lead one to tap into one’s better nature. The trick, of course, is in sustaining this better nature, which is why so many people re-read this book on a regular basis. Seven Laws to Live ByChopra breaks the book into seven short, interesting, easy to read chapters. Each chapter is based on a law, and each chapter builds on the previous chapter.
At the end of each chapter, Chopra gives three steps to putting each law into effect. For best results, it’s advisable to read just one chapter a day, or better yet one a week, to give one a chance to actually practice the three steps given to put each Law into effect in one’s life. Guru or CharlatanWhether one considers Chopra to be a mass market guru or a charlatan and crackpot will largely depend on one’s frame of reference, open mindedness and attitude towards becoming a gentler, kinder, possibly more successful person. There are those who scoff at such lofty, esoteric , “touchy-feely” goals; others fully embrace the attitudes and ways of thinking and acting that Chopra proposes. Interestingly, some of Chopra’s ideas have been validated in offhand ways by other writers, such as Lynn McTaggert in The Intention Experiment and Esther Hicks in her Abraham books. The power of the human mind to bring about extraordinary personal changes is even now reluctantly admitted by Western physicians, with caveats, of course. For those interested in personal growth, Chopra’s book is well worth investigating. Even if a person does not achieve the “success” in what one was seeking, the reader may very well achieve success in other, far more personal ways.
